Welcome to Display Calibrator, the online monitor calibration tool powered by NEWNMEDIA™. This web based tool helps you to calibrate your monitor, mobile screen or the display of your handheld device easily and effectively. The pattern will automatically switch according to the screen size of your mobile, monitor or your handheld device. This tool is created using the features of CSS3 and HTML5. Please use a browser with HTML5 / CSS3 support. Try Google Chrome (highly recommended), Mozilla Firefox or Microsoft IE 9 (least recommended).

Setting up your monitor

Before starting the calibration, set up your monitor as mentioned below.

  1. Switch on the monitor and wait for ~30 mins before calibrating it. Make sure the screen is free of dust.
  2. Turn off the lights on the back/sides of the monitor to avoid light falling on the screen.
  3. Open Control Panel > Graphic Driver Color Management Tool (Depends on the Manufacturer).
  4. Change the resolution to native (LCDs) or to the highest possible (CRTs) and change the color quality to 24bit or 32bit. Also set the refresh rate to default.
  5. Choose the tab where Brightness, Contrast and Gamma settings are available.
  6. Change the Gamma to native or the lowest value. Then change Brightness to lowest and Contrast to highest value.
  7. Hide the details/Facebook comments on this page and switch your browser to fullscreen.

Calibrating your monitor

Increase the brightness and decrease the contrast step by step. If the calibration is correct the bands will be displayed as mentioned below.

  1. The White-to-Black and Black-to-White gradients in the top-most figure will be displayed without any banding.
  2. The next two figures contains gray tones, each shade keeping a distance of 6 steps. Extreme left of the first one is perfect Black and the extreme right of second one is perfect White. There will be a total of 18 bands in each figure.
  3. In the next figure the shades are separated by an interval of 4 steps. The left belongs to the tones nearer to Black and the right belongs to White. On either side there will be a total of 9 bands.
  4. In the circular figures the tones are separated by 2 steps. 4 concentric circles will be visible in each figure. Note: For general use these figures can be ignored. Low-end / budget-range monitors may fail to display these tones correctly.

Gamma correction

The centre image contains stripes on the either side of a solid color. The solid rectangle in the middle and the background of the stripes should appear equally bright in a properly adjusted display.

    Calibrating your Mobile

Most of the mobile phones only allow users to adjust the brightness of the LCD screen. Adjust the brightness so that the black and white shades are clearly distinguishable.
